Back to School Blues

I feel you, coming back after the holidays can be straight up rough.

Stomachs are in knots.

Tears flowing non-stop.

Changes wreck the body and mind alike.

And after relaxing with family over winter break too? Forget about it.

Parents were probably praying for Christmas magic to last a little longer, anxiously awaiting the daily meltdowns school will no doubt bring.

The morning routines were tense enough getting out the door before vacation mode.

But now?

Schedules are shredded, routines ripped to pieces, schedules all twisted six ways from Sunday.

Just as you finally fell into a groove too.

Bam - it comes crashing down with school only days away from starting up again.

Wasn't the whole point of break to kick back and recharge your batteries?

Now who has the mental stamina for this level of madness at the crack of dawn every weekday?

Going from full dictator parent to walking on eggshells definitely won't help tame the tensions either.

There must be a middle way to weather this storm without losing your cool.

And trust me when I say eliminating the hysteria is totally possible with the right approach.

But you need insight into what's really fueling their freakouts right now.

When worries wash over them in waves, solutions will just sound superficial.

Anxiety will override logic at every turn.

Speak their language, for real - use words and phrases they actually connect with.

They need to feel seen, heard, and understood, and so to do that, you need to be on the same page verbally.

So mirror their tone.

Use the same words and phrases they do.

Try to speak in a way you know they’ll understand, even if it feels foreign to you.

Build their confidence through encouragement, not demands.

What we’ve seen with our clients, is the more they can encourage their children to find a solution for themselves, rather than simply giving them solutions, the more calm and empowered that child feels.

This should help you get started, and see some headway in those ‘back-to-school battles.’

But if you want a more personalized approach, and you’d love support, guidance, and expert help along the way …

Why not book a call with our team today, and talk about how we can help.

Don’t let another break come and go and you STILL not have the proven toolkit to help through the transitions.

Talk soon,

💚 Megghan
